Andy Einhorn

In demand as music director, conductor, pianist, orchestrator, arranger, and vocal coach, Andy Einhorn boasts Broadway credits for Brief Encounter, The Light in the Piazza, the revival of Evita, Sondheim on Sondheim, which won a Grammy® nod for Best Original Broadway Cast Recording, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, and Bullets Over Broadway. He is also recognized for his frequent collaborations with many of the musical theater world’s biggest stars, including F. Murray Abraham, Kristin Chenoweth, Barbara Cook, Ana Gasteyer, and Audra McDonald. He currently serves as music director of the new Broadway production Bullets Over Broadway which opens on April 10.

As resident music director on the Sweeney Todd national tour, Einhorn received the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award nomination for Outstanding Music Direction. He worked on the first national tour of The Light in the Piazza, and other tour credits include South Pacific, White Christmas,Mamma Mia!, The Lion King, and The Sound of Music.

Off-Broadway, Einhorn worked on Adam Gwon’s Ordinary Days, while international work includes the European premiere of The Light in the Piazza. He was music director of The 25^th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee for the Philadelphia Theatre Company and the world-premiere production of Tony®-nominated Henry Krieger’s new musical, Radio Girl, at the Goodspeed Opera House. Also at Goodspeed, Einhorn worked on Flight of the Lawnchair Man, Amour and The Boyfriend, directed by the legendary Julie Andrews. He was music director and orchestrator of Ordinary Days at the Adirondack Theatre Festival, also recently orchestrating Gwon’s The Boy Detective Fails at the Signature Theatre and She Loves Me under director Rebecca Taichman for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. He was principal vocal coach and pianist for the world-premiere production of An Evening with Audra McDonaldat Houston Grand Opera, which featured the singer in a double-bill of Poulenc’s monodrama La voix humaine and the world premiere of Send, a companion-piece written by composer Michael John LaChiusa.

Equally at home in the concert hall, Einhorn has served as music director and pianist for the Grammy and Tony Award-winning McDonald, performing with her at the Philadelphia Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, and Sundance Institute. In the fall of 2011 he joins the celebrated singer and actress on a coast-to-coast tour of North America that includes season-opening concerts at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia and the Celebrity Series in Boston, as well as performances at Washington, DC’s Kennedy Center and New York’s Carnegie Hall.

Einhorn made his Carnegie Hall debut accompanying the Academy Award-winning F. Murray Abraham in the world premiere of Elusive Things: A Song Cycle, and has assumed the role of music director for the Tony Award-winning Barbara Cook at venues including New York’s Feinstein’s at the Regency. Other New York cabaret and concert credits include the Manhattan Theatre Club, Lincoln Center Allen Room, and 92^nd Street Y, where he was music director, orchestrator, and arranger of Stage Door Canteen. The original cast album of Stage Door Canteen is among Einhorn’s recording credits.

An honors graduate of Rice University, Andy Einhorn is a native of Houston, Texas. He currently lives in New York City.
