New Musical Development

New Musical Development at The University of Texas at Austin’s Texas Musical Theatre Workshop

An incubator for the development of new musicals by professional artists, Texas Musical Theatre Workshop’s New Musical Development Series hosts dynamic creative teams every June. Structured within the Actors Equity 29-Hour Reading protocol, this two week workshop process culminates in a staged reading open to the public in our 475-seat  B. Iden Payne Theater.  Equity and non-equity professional artists, as well as student artists from across the country, audition for the chance to participate in this exciting phase of new musical development.  A productive and critical discovery opportunity for creative teams to focus and develop their new work, TXMTW has brought award winning writers, composers, and directors to campus since its inception.
